Physical Description

The tree wolf is a small predator that spends most of its life in the trees. It is a fur covered mammal that moves about on all fours, leaping from branch to branch with ease. It greatly resembles a small wolf crossed with a large squirrel. It has mottled brown and black fur, bright eyes and a bushy tail. It is about four foot long from nose to tail and weighs 45 pounds. Tree wolves have a distinctive bark which is a short, sharp "hoot" sound.

Combat

Tree wolves are able to move through tree branches very quickly and with astounding stealth. They use this to their advantage when hunting high in the trees. Like squirrels, tree wolves feel safest in the trees. When on the ground, they are vulnerable and jittery. They are always on the lookout for hawks and eagles which sometimes make a meal of them. Tree wolves will run from a fight if they feel outmatched. They will also run from fire or loud noises. However, normally, tree wolves pose no threat to people.

Habitat

Tree wolves are most common in the Grand Wood, but can be found in many forests and woods in the west. Elves often keep tree wolves as pets and sometimes train them as guard dogs.

Ecology

Tree wolves hunt anything in the trees that are smaller than them (squirrels, rodents, spiders, birds, insects, grubs) and supplement this with berries and bird's eggs. The tree wolf is a marsupial mammal and raises its young in a stomach pouch. A female will typically have a litter of 2-4 cubs once every five years.
