Description

Once a mighty war god of the Kytohan Empire that was dedicated to skill in battle, honor and glory, this religion has degenerated over the centuries into a small church of bickering factions, wandering warrior priests and belligerent warriors who offer little worship beyond intoning Baltrad's name in oath and curse.

Baltrad is now depicted as an angry god who revels in the fury of storms and the chaos of combat. He is described as a berzerking soldier who fights bare chested and decorates his body and face with war paint. He fights with an enormous serrated two handed sword. He wears a great helm from which have two downward curved horns. A pair of huge feathered black raven wings sprout from his back.

Religion

This religion is popular among all kinds of warriors throughout western Aggradar. There are no grand temples dedicated to Baltrad. Instead, one will find small shrines scattered about the lands. Usually such shrines will be found in towns or in castles and tended to by only a handful of priests.

Those priests who do not run a shrine wander the lands looking for battle. They often find their way into mercenary groups, militias and such. They are often sought after because of their many spells which are useful in war.

Baltrad priests decorate themselves in war paint like their lord and drink the blood of their enemies. They enter a berzerker rage in combat and inspire those around them. Priests of Baltrad have great control over weather. They are able to summon fierce storms and control the winds in battle. They have been known to call lightning from the clouds to strike their enemies and strike their foes down with thunderous claps.

There is no formal rank structure among priests of Baltrad. Disputes between priests are settled by duels which establishes a sort of pecking order.

Any day that sees a battle is a holy day. After any major battle, the faithful of Baltrad kneel in prayer to their lord.

Baltrad is the sworn enemy of Vazul and the priests of Baltrad will often attack priests of Vazul.
