The gods of the Trossoli are collectively known as the Akulish, although among the surface races they are sometimes called the Sarthak Flesh Lords. The Akulish appear as hideous, shapeless deformed things - little more than grotesque growths... mountains of flesh from which protrude a wild assortment of eyes stalks and tentacles. There are stories that say the Akulish dwell deep in the belly of the world, in monstrous caverns and eat the flesh of prisoners and slaves of the trossoli. The true nature of the Akulish is much more terrible and is known to few non-trossoli. Infinitely old, awesomely intelligent and terribly cruel, the Akulish are more than deities of the trossoli, they are the rulers of trossoli society, for they are real and dwell at the heart of the great trossoli cities underground. There are nine great trossoli cities in the underworld and each has an akulish lord at its center. For the trossoli, religion is not a matter of mere faith. They can see their gods plainly, hear their gods' commands and see the horrific deaths of those who disobey.
The Trossoli worship flesh. For them, the body is holy. It is for this reason that their magic and science continually seeks to improve the body, although most races would agree that trossoli science perverts the flesh. Their "Life Creation" experiments are notorious and tales of terror from Trossoli slave camps deep in the underworld have reached the surface on more than one occassion.
