Description

Throughout the Fire Isles and the lands around them, Kano-Tabai is a name spoken in fearful whispers... for it is the name of a dark and terrible religion based upon the worship of an elder demon. Kano-Tabai is a wrathful being that dwells in the heart of a great volcano on Akaliwai, the largest of the Fire Isles. He rules as the god of the Yamonari, one of the native tribes of the Fire Isles. He is a god of fire, poison, slavery and death. Never venturing forth, but always thirsting for flesh and blood, the Yamonari bring him sacrifices of animals and prisoners to satisfy his hunger. Precious gems, crafted art and valuable metal weapons are given to him as well.

Few have ever laid eyes on him and lived. Only the priests of the Yamonari are allowed to gaze upon him. Legend paints a terrifying picture - a great beast, larger than an elephant, with a great bristling back, fur covered, horns and tusks. His eyes are said to burn with the souls of victims he has feasted on. Meeting his gaze induces madness they say. He sits on a throne of human skulls and drinks from a fountain of human blood. He is served by all manner of lesser demons - monstrous mishapen things that he crafts from those poor unfortunate victims that he does not devour.

Religion

The Kano-Tabai faith is horrific and bloody. Legends of these people and their murderous religion have found their way to the lands of Qeshir and Aggradar. Because most foreigners are not familiar with the subtle differences between all of the different tribes, it is a common misconception that all the Fire Isle tribes worship this demon. This is not the case however. Likewise, Kano-tabai himself is a near mythical being, shrouded in superstition and mystery. Tales of this religion are violent often involving blood letting, torture, ritual sacrifice, ritual scarring and battle dancing. It is not known how much of this is true. It is known that many of the other tribes are fearful of the Yamonari. The eshtari, in particular, fear Kano-tabai above all else and will not speak of him nor sail near the Fire Isles. Elements of this faith have worked their way into other lands. There are accounts of some primitive tribes in the mountains surrounding the Sea of Ash that practice ritual sacrifice and cannabilism like the Yamonari.
