Description

Uxamar is many things to the dwarves. The patron deity of miners and diggers, the physical representation of the cavernous world in which they dwell, the father of the gods and creator of everything, the giver of gifts and more and the father of the land. Uxamar has many forms. He is usually depicted as a dwarf made of solid living stone or an animated stone statue. Other times, he appears as a very old male dwarf.

It is said that Uxamar taught the first dwarves how to find and mine valuable metal and stones from the precious living rock. Uxamar does not live in the ground beneath the dwarves. He is the ground. Priests of Uxamar speak to the stone, dwarves say, and the stone answers. Uxamar is everything and everywhere. His name is often uttered in oaths and curses.

Religion

The church of Uxamar is a powerful one in dwarven society. Dwarves believe that Uxamar is all things. He is more than the stone that surrounds them; he is the hollows of the caverns, he is the darkness of the Underworld. Uxamar nurtures the moss and fungus that grow along the underground rivers and shapes the great waterfalls. He is the architect of the Pillars of the World.

Most of Uxamar's followers are dwarven, but miners of other races pay homage to him as well. Miners often pray to him for a good find. Uxamaran priests wield powerful "stone magic". They have been known to create and destroy stone, shape it, detect caves and safe paths, form bridges over rivers of lava, smell out veins of precious metal and even more incredible feats. Uxamaran priests often establish homes in natural caves. They sometimes wander, others work for mining operations. Many are prominent community members in the dwarven city-states.
