Description

Wardegar is the patron deity of dwarven thieves, assassins and all those who work under cover of darkness. Wardegar is said to live in a huge castle which is a labyrinth and fortress both. He lives and works in total darkness. Shadows deep at his approach. The presence of Wardegar does, in fact, absorb light. Many say that this is how he powers his magic, by absorbing energy through the visible spectrum.

History

Long ago, during the Age of Sorrow, there was born into Urmordia a dwarven child that knew only darkness, for torches and lanterns dimmed in his presence. He was an aberrant with a unique mutation - luminescence absorption. All light, in any form, dimmed near the child. Despite superstitious fears from many commoners, the child was protected by the parents. He was different and because of that, the other dwarves feared him. It was inevitable that he would be driven to a life of crime. Early in life, he ran away from home. The boy was in trouble with the law many times. Eventually, Wardegar took to a life of thievery, a profession which he excelled at due to his unique gift. Later in life, he founded a small thieves guild which specialized in stealth. He also began to dabble in sorcery and found a talent there. In his later life, Wardegar's powers grew to a staggering level. During a battle between Wardegar's guild and a rival guild, he unleashed his powers and changed to shadow himself. In shadow form, he tore out the life from each of the attackers. Leaving his lieutenants in charge, Wardegar merged with the shadows and vanished. The worship of Wardegar started that day with the members of the guild who had bore witness to the spectacle.

Religion

Disciples of this religion are known as Shadow Dancers. A great deal of training and testing is required to achieve the title. Shadow Dancers are exceptional assassins and thieves. They are very intelligent, extremely stealthy and skilled at unarmed combat. The priests of this religion, known as Shades, are able to manipulate light and darkness at will. This religion considers the glow tree (woget) to be an unholy abomination. It is often ritually sacrificed..
