Description

Assytia is the patron deity of herbalists, naturalists, woodsmen and all those who gain their livelihood from the forests and nature. Assytia is able to communicate with the animals of the forest, alter her physical form at will and detect disturbances in the forest. She is very skilled at animal and plant lore, herbalism, weather sense, agriculture and more. She avoids combat, seeking more peaceful solutions to problems. Assytia enjoys the solitude and peace of the forests and often spends her time there when she visits Khoras.

History

Little is known of Assytia’s history. The legends of this religion state that she, a simple commoner and herbalist, stood up to the Thullian Emperor to defend a small glade from destruction, the very forest that was cleared to create the Assembly Hall. She failed to protect the forest and was executed. However, the execution martyred her and her spirit plagued the construction of the Assembly Hall long after her death. Many opposed the Alliance and their bold plan. All resistance was eventually crushed. The religion has slowly developed over time and Assytia visits Khoras again and again to defend the forests.

Religion

Priests of Assytia are more often female than male. Like their goddess, they excel at the skills of the forest: tracking, herbalism, animal lore, hunting, etc. Their spells tend toward healing, nurturing, growth, protection and divination. Such spells often utilize natural surroundings. Assytian priestesses are self-appointed protectors of the forest. Each priest or priestess of Assytia claims a forest or part of a forest and lives out the lives there protecting both the forest and the forest dwellers. Assytia is worshipped primarily by humans, elves and grum.

Shrines to Assytia are common in small villages near forested areas, but there are no large city temples to this goddess. A "temple" of Assytia is more like a structured garden with terraces and paths and walkways. There are a few low, cobblestone walls, but no roofs or enclosed structures. The whole area is very open and light and airy. Many gardens, flowers, potted plants, trees and bubbling brooks decorate the place. It is more of a holy place that is tended like a garden and guarded. Usually there is a large open area with a central fountain located at the heart of the "temple". The whole is exposed to rain, lightning, wind and sunshine.

Priestesses of Assytia have small, loosely gathered congregations (perhaps a dozen faithful) who will come to the garden to worship and learn.
