Description

Carrikos is the Father of Magic, the quintessential wizard. Carrikos is one of the more powerful deities who was worshipped widely before the Great War. He was the patron deity of the Assembly mages who sundered Drellikar. Carrikos rarely leaves his studies and research. Those who aspire to be as dedicated to magic as he make great sacrifices.

History

Once, long ago, during the Age of Dawning, a Ranyku Master by the name of Carrikos lived. During his long life, he amassed great knowledge and became the most skilled sorcerer during the Age. He was little known then and now because he was very reclusive. He had few friends and rarely ventured out of his home, except to gather potent herbs or some other small quest to promote his art. Carrikos disappeared sometimes after his eightieth birthday.

Religion

A plethora of intellectualists pay homage to this deity. Sages, scholars, scribes, alchemists, wizards, etc. However, the nation of Carrikos is the heart of this religion. Within those lands, the high priest of Carrikos reigns supreme in all religious matters and leads the government. The priests of Carrikos form a tightly knit order of fanatics that present the worship of Carrikos as something more spiritual than most mages would like.

Carrikosian temples are huge and magnificent structures. They often have huge sunroofs to let sunlight pour in and a large central pool filled with crystal blue water. Each temple is decorated with large statues and trimmed with gold, marble, ivory and silver. Huge amounts of wealth are tied up into each temple. Because of this, only a few of these structures exist and each serves the worship of thousands.

The hierarchy of the church of Carrikos is a strictly tiered system of ranks and titles. At the top of this pyramid is the Mage Lord Priest of Carrikos, Valyrian Syr. Directly serving Valyrian Syr is the High Council which consists of twelve archbishops. This council is responsible for all executive and legislative decisions in the nation Carrikos. They directly support Valyrian. Each member of the High Council is served by a staff of five bishops. These 60 bishops hold various offices in the government and carry out many of the administrative duties. Serving the bishops are several hundred priests who directly administer to the people, lead congregations, heal the sick and generally promote the faith. At the lowest level of the Church are a large group of Templars, also known as mage knights. These Templars are a blend of knight, wizard and priest who use steel, spell and faith to accomplish their tasks.
