Strath is not a typical grum. First of all, he never smiles. He wears multiple layers of armor, fights with a shovel and climbs walls with two ice picks. However, he prefers to go through walls than over them. He likes to set things on fire or blow them up - whatever it takes to accomplish his goal. He cares nothing for wealthy, luxury or comfort and even less for love and happiness. For him, struggling to overcome obstacles is happiness.

Strath was a wealthy grum and unfamiliar with hardship and discomfort. His beloved wife was kidnapped by a wizard for a specific ransom, a fabulous sapphire named the Jewel of Dunlyn that Strath possessed. Instead of delivering the gem as appointed, Strath expended a great deal of money to locate the wizards stronghold and hire many warriors, mages and guides to join him in a quest to recapture his love. Of course, he was only going along to make sure he got his moneys worth. The journey was exceptionally long, leading from Dunlyn to the Dragon Claw Mountains. The journey was harsh and one by one, the team of 50 was reduced to 30. Through the adventure, they battled a torgat and won (losing seven). Later, Strath defended himself in a Tykron bar fight with a shovel. With ten members left, they ventured into the mountains. Strath scaled an ice cliff with two stolen ice picks. Finally, they infiltrated the wizards mountainous hide away. Straths wife was saved and the wizard was killed. The quest was a success. However, the quest had changed Strath. He had endured unbelievably adversity. He had thrived off of it. He no longer cared for wealth. After dividing the wizards wealth among the surviving warriors, Strath headed for home with his new wife. But she no longer wanted him now that he had given up his fortune. She left him soon after reaching home, taking the Jewel of Dunlyn with her.

The events of Straths journey changed him and molded him. These events also influenced the form the cult of Strath would take. Priests of Strath care nothing for wealth or love. They are interested only in the day to day struggle to survive. They more conflict, adversity and obstacles they encounter, the better they like it. They prefer to wear coarse cloth clothing, sleep on floors and eat basic meals. They believe in function over form, durability over decoration. And they try to spread their believes and help others to escape the evil of luxuries and softness. Strath priests fight dirty and are very difficult to kill. They simply never give up.
