The Avisarr Gem

Introduction

The Avisarr gem is the focal point of the entire Avisarr campaign. It is an extremely powerful magic item... an enchanted gemstone from the ancient past. It holds vast power and, beginning 150 years ago, the soul of a demon lord. It is the most holy artifact of the Church of Draxorith and a relic of Duthelm. Originally, the gem was clear, smooth and perfect. However, during the battle of the Avisarr during which Draxorith was "banished", the symbol of Ynthar (the focusing symbol of that banishing spell) was burned upon the crystal.

Physical Description

The Avisarr is a flawless gemstone of deep green color shaped like a round, 5 inch diameter lozenge. It is smooth (not faceted) with a slightly rippled surface. The symbol of Ynthar is scored into the gemstone (the lines are actually blackened crystal). Although the gemstone looks to be emerald, it is actually a rare crystalline substance which mages and alchemists call vertrillium. The unique molecular structure of this crystal make it ideal for capturing and storing energy.
