Temegaru

Dialects

Temegaru is the language spoken by the indigenous tribes of the Fire Isles. Although there are thirteen major tribes and dozens of minor ones, they all speak Temegaru. Each has its own dialect of the language including their own expressions and slang. However, these are subtle variations. All tribal dialects are extremely similar and speakers from different tribes or regions are able to converse easily.

Spoken

There is a strong similarity between eshtari and temegaru. Most scholars hold a firm belief that these two cultures share a common history. It is not known if the esthari were once a tribe of the alakubu that migrated to the main land of Aggradar or if the alakubu left the eshtari. In any case, similarities between the culture and their languages imply a definite connection. Temegaru is a complicated language that is rapidly spoken. It has a vast vocabulary because it uses separate words rather than verb conjugations and in place of many adjectives.

Written

Temegaru is based on an alphabet of 51 letters which appear to be a simplified form of the eshtari alphabet. The written form of Temegaru is only used by the shamans.
