The acidjaw appears as a large quadruped that stands about 2 meters tall (6.5 feet) at the shoulder and weighs about 400 kilograms (900 pounds). This immense beast has a large, complex jaw that consists of two sets of mandibles. The large mandible jaws drip acidic saliva constantly. The creature's tough horny hide is difficult to cut with a blade. The hide is grey and green. It has a short, thick tail which has bony ridges along the tip that makes it a dangerous weapon.
The acidjaw gets its name from its highly acidic saliva which is strong enough to eat through metal armor, corrode leather and burn flesh. Its jaws are incredibly strong, able to crush full plate armor or snap an omarin spear in two. The creature will typically charge opponents, trampling small ones and biting larger foes.
Acidjaws are the top predator in the Desolation of Shidar and they are found only in the Desolation. Acidjaws are normally solitary hunters, but on rare occassions a pack of two or three acidjaws will hunt together. A small pack of acidjaws can sometimes bring down an immature hothgra.
The acid of the acidjaw becomes inert very quickly when exposed to oxygen. If it is not collected and placed in an airtight container within a few seconds, it will be useless. However, if properly collected, it will retain its potency for many weeks.
