Qirben are not a significant threat as an adversary. They do not swarm, have poison or bite for damage. In general, the only threat they represent is their egg laying (see below).
Qirben are found in warm, tropical regions. Primarily the Sentinel Mountains, the Pirate Isles and Karth.
The female sucks the blood of warm-blooded animals as a means of feeding. Female qirben will often lay their eggs in an open, bleeding wound of a mammal. This is usually done at night while the animal sleeps. Once laid, the eggs will cluster together, forming a sac. This sac will look very much like a bad infection and the wound will be sore to the touch. While the eggs are in the wound, the wound will not heal properly. It takes about two weeks for the eggs to hatch during which time the area will swell, be sore and itch. Finally, the eggs will hatch and the victim will find several dozen baby qirben erupting from that body part, a most disconcerting site for any who witness it. Travelers in this region are cautioned that any wound should be bandaged immediately lest they find themselves the unwitting host for a sack of qirben eggs.
