My very good friend, Brent Fishbaugh, pointed out to me that the Avisarr is, essentially, a horcrux. That thought had never occurred to me before. I've read the Harry Potter books. Seen the movies. But never thought of that. And you know, he's absolutely right. The Avisarr did, in fact, harbor a fragment of Draxorith's demonic soul for a time... that's the very definition of a horcrux.
And for those of you who don't know, the Avisarr gemstone holds a special place in Khoras lore. It was the very first piece of the world that was created. The world started with a college D&D campaign. That campaign's plot began with the Avisarr gemstone. So, yeah, I can trace the beginning of this world to a single item. Come to think of it, I even have the date... December 20, 1990. That's when work on Khoras began. And yes, that means I've been tinkering with this little D&D world for 30 years now. Damn, that makes me feel old. :)
I can help with that last bit, Dave. On December 20, 1990, I was exactly two days shy of 9 months old. ;P
Jokes aside, the One Ring is also a horcrux. Say what you want about J. K. Rowling, but she did give us all a very handy name for a very specific sort of talisman. A worthwhile contribution to human knowledge, that.
Agreed. It's not a new idea, but she did give us a great term for it.
hehehe
in 1990 i had just got out of the Navy in 1988...
started working for Todd Naval Yards, Seattle in 1989 and met my fiance...
1990, my fiance left me 1 month shy of us getting married...
life really sucked from then to 2000...
horcrux is a new term for me...but it does seem to fit don't it???
ah the memories...
Your fiancé left you? I'm so sorry to hear that. That sucks. Glad you survived it.
Thanks it was a horrible time....
