Yep
Moreover, I've always seen the begining of the war quite "sudden" :
"Several factors came into play that caused the next war in the region. A giant named Karthus united the orcish tribes of the mountains."
It was not really planed by Duthelm nor by Kitar. I think Kitar was surprised by the strenght of the assault and that defenses were crushed, leading to the Myranor siege...

Well, it's how I feel it...

Not sure.
It's not something I don't find on the website. It's something I find too strange...
I've already posted a topic about that in another section.

It concerns the length of the second demon war. It is said it took FOUR YEARS for duthelmian hordes to reach Myranor... It's very long!
A war can last several years only if the forces are balanced. And it seems to me that it's not the case here (Duthelmian army + Khartus army + Xorians).

Any though about that?

Hi!
I've just seen the part 2. I think its a quite good movie, although a LOT of materials has been added. Without doubt it could have been made in only two movies!
Anyway, it doesn't disturb me as strongly as it was with LotR (Elrond giving the sword lately, the undeads, the elfes in Helm's Deep...). They added new characters for obvious reasons, specially the female elf character.
And at last, I like the way they did the dragon. As David doesn't like intelligent dragon I wonder what he think about Smaug  ;)

Hi
Like Tanis I resurect some old topic.

In fact I still have the same problem than before but with other players. The previous player didn't "reach" the problem since we stopped to play.
So I still find it completely impossible that it takes nearly four years for Duthelmian horde (your word) to reach Myranor.
I would be glad if you can give me your feeling about that.

Hi everybody, hi Dave!
It's a long time I've not been here on the forum to ask some question about Khoras. And it seems to me it's very quit here, specially this section.
Let's wake it up with a difficult topic (and who knows, perhaps a debate).

Well, so my question deals with the deity in Khoras. I know Dave that it's not your favorite part of the world but I have some interrogations.
At present, deity are classified in "tiers" (greater gods, lesse gods, demi-gods...) and race. It seems to me that you wanted to change that but I guess other parts of the world caught your attention. So there are tiers, and nations here and there have a primary religion and some secondary religions.

And I have a problem to imagine exactly how it works.
On Earth, there are/were some different religions : greek or egyptian pantheon, god of christian or muslim... But the khorasian faith doesn't fit with that patern.

Ancient greek did believe in different gods but they were a sort of a familly, with Zeus or Poseidon as greater gods. Some greek were priest of one or the other lesser gods (for example Appollon) without denying the other gods. This was a pantheon.
Nowaday, it's impossible to believe in God and Ganesh at the same time. Monotheist religions don't "allow" other gods. But it's possible to believe in Ganesh, Shiva and Vishnu, because it's also a kind of pantheon.

But in Khoras it's more difficult to understand how the faith works.
Can a people believe in several gods in the same time? in a lesser god and a greater god? in several greater gods?

Can all deity of human be considered as a pantheon (implying that every human "believe" in all these gods, even if he only pray for some of them)?
If yes, is there a chief god (like Zeus)?

Or on the contrary perhaps each god has its own unique religion. But it would imply that no one could pray several gods...?

If anyone here has some idea to help, I would be very glad to hear other point of view.

Hello
As a non native English speaker I won't give any advice... apart for "Coup de grace" which is a french expression.
I still have the problem that I'm not sure of the english words used as comparison, but let's try :

"Coup" : the "ou" is pronounced like "oo" in english ("too"...)
           the "p" is not pronounced
"de" : well the "e" is like "a" in "a dog" (and even more... hum... like the 'e' letter in French :), oh I got it! the "u" sound in "unbelievable")
"grace" : is pronounced like in english but for the "a" like in "arm".

Completed / Calendar
April 08, 2012, 09:43:56 PM
Hi everyone

I have a question about the new calendar. Now that there are 4 weeks of 7 days, you have put :
- the 1st day balanced
- the 7th day Karrym maximum
- the 14th day balanced
- the 21th day Drellis maximum
- the 28th day balanced again (it should be only 14th and 28th balanced and not 1st, 14th and 28th balanced, but it doesn't change the spell multiplier you put)

Well it seems fine as long as we do not look at week, since they would be completely mixed. First week half-balanced half-Karrym, second week half-Karrym half-balanced, third half-balanced half-Drellis...

Woulnd't it be more sociologicaly better if week were more specific. As Karrym Drellis deeply affect there life, they could have separated week another way : first week around balanced point, second one around Karrym maximum, etc... It After all the gregorian calendar is not set from to the soltices.

Other small point.
The Ithrian name for the month were magic-related, with hints about the Drellis or Karrym effect on spells. As each month is now completely equal, it's weird to have months like "spellfade" or "magereign". Isn't it?

As everybody I presume, I was very astonished the first time I've red your story. But now that I know that vampires exist, nothing can surprise me anymore! :D
Concerning a solution, I think Drul is right when he speak about a more subtle way. In fact I see two ways. First you can include in the problematic sentence some geographical references in the Khoras world. If you cite words like "Ithria continent", "kingdom of Arkalia", "Carrikos theocratie" they could perhaps realize that you speak about a fictionnal world.
For those who would be deeper in their mental troubles and who would believe that these names would be the magic counter part for USA, France or asian continent, you can use another trick. Just try to include the fact that it's a medieval world, for instance by saying that "in such a medieval world where technology is primitive, magic is a way to bla bla bla". It should make them realize that you do not speak about the Earth.

Hi Drul and welcome!
For my part it took me some time to join the Khoras world for my game. Not because of a lack of interest but rather because I play my own system and it needed large effort to "upgrade" it into the huge khorasian diversity. Now I play in a amazing world and my rule system is much more rich!

I completely agree with you only if the sense of touch is limited to the sensation of the softness or the roughtness.
Because if you follow this idea, the sens of touch is also what makes the object more "real". The illusion of a sword would be a really cutting sword. And as "touch illusion" repeals fingers (otherwise they would pass through the objet), you can also imagine that you can make an illusion of a ladder and this ladder really help you to go up. Obviously the mental illusion do not enable that since it's only "in the mind" and not "in the world". But what happen if somebody think he climb a false mental ladder? ???

In other word, if you add the sense of touch, illusion spelll can cover a very large field of spell : you can mimic matter creation and then make weapon appears, or bridges, rope, large walls, water... And as one of the main principle of illusion is that you can change it easily (an illusion of a guy has to move to be realistic), you can even change what you have created very quickly.

This is VERY powerful and possible just because we add this small "sense of touch". You could create a illusion of a dragon making real wounds but impossible to wound because not affected by real physic and biology. And if you want you could change it into 20 swords spining and whirling endlessly, cutting through the flesh of too slow oponents.

I would like to add the sens of touch to make silver coins heavy in hand like gold coins, or to foul somebody after having stolen his weapon... But this is too powerful. :-\
Or perhaps the Power of the spell would have to be much different between pushing back fingers touching a false sword, and pushing back a foot standing on a false stair. ???

In fact I did'nt want to confuse my explanation but I already did implement the "mental illusion" in the Mentalism Arcana, as well as illusion of smell, heat and taste (plus negative illusions and alteration illusions to be exhaustive) in the Illusion Arcana. :)

But the question was motivated by curiousity, since in my opinion, illusion in the common sense are really light or sound creation. I thought it was obvious since my friend told me he thought something completely different.

To complete my questioning, I would like to ask you an open question : how would you manage the sens of touch? Would you allow it? If yes, how?
Because it was the starting point of our divergences in our discussion...

The Art of the Game Master / The Art of Illusion
April 27, 2011, 03:45:11 AM
Hi!

One of my player and I were discussing endlessly around the topic of illusion this night. So I would like to have your point of view. :)

As said in another thread a long time ago, I wrote a complete set of rule to describe the sorcery. It's base on quantitative values given for various major arcana (Time, Space, Power, Controle) and minor arcana (Illusion, Mentalism, Biomancy, etc...).
Each minor arcana describes exactly what could be done on that field and at which level. For instance, Mentalism enables :

  • at low skill : emotion reading and modifying...
  • at medium skill : confusion, thoughts reading, desire modifying...
  • at high skill : thought alteration, memories reading, mind control...

Concerning the illusion arcana, I needed to explain what were these illusions. For me the illusion of an object is an artifical creation of light which imitates the object (obviously it's not solid). In so doing, the light is "real" and if camera would exist they would see the object. You can also make illusion of sounds by creating air vibrations and so forth... These illusions has a physical range (not a magical range). They can be seen or heared from far. The Space arcana only describe the distance spellcaster/illusion. Moreover "real light" or "real sounds" are not affected by magic resistance (IMO).

Another way to describe illusions is to suppose that the object only exists in the mind of people observing the scene. In this way, the "object" is not here : it's a magical phenomenon which prints the image in the surrounding minds. For such illusion, the Space arcana describes the area of effect and the magic resistance of the victims is taken into account.

As you can see, two very different ways for illusion description. I would like to know which one is your favorite? I mean which one fits with what you think an illusion should be.

General Discussion and Questions / Re: favorite
April 06, 2011, 07:37:24 AM
Favorite Nation :
The Coalition! I discovered it lately but there is really plenty of things to do in such a country. Without central leadership, lot's of stories may be imagined in the struggle of the seven groups, or one of the numerous other small groups.

Favorite Animal :
Hum... I would say the dragon hound. It's quite interresting to imagine such a ferocious hound with wings!

Favorite Continent :
Well they do not reach the same level of civilization. And I would tend to prefer the one with the more complex "social" structure. So, Ithria!

Favorite Race :
What a difficult question. For playing I prefer human because they are the only one we can really feel (obvious). But I love the ogres "simple and direct", or the winged (again) elves. And borrelians! I forget borrelians!
