General Discussion and Questions / Re: How much gold?
September 28, 2006, 11:56:31 AM
It is abit easier if you wanted to do that, however...when you're being a GM (Game Master which includes all variety of DM/ST/etc) it DOES require alot of work.  But for us GM's when we're able to answer any question, point our players in the direction of whatever things they need, and in general have everything set up and ready to go, our fun comes when our players have fun from all our work.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at with that idea...maybe a little more info on it would be helpful?

Very true on the lords and whatnot.  In most countries they imposed a heavy tax on their people, the figures i listed were before such things get taken into account.

Most of the creatures are now statted out and on the pages, so for everybodies enjoyment here on the forums i'll link the page to you.

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~phaeton/khoras/dathkandra/bestiary.html

Thanks to Phaeton for the webwork, Sarah, Phil, Mikey and once again Phaeton for the reference materials and idea's when i was stuck (which was often).  But mostly thanks to David as they're all his creations!

Not all of them are on there just yet, we gotta playtest some of the others to make sure we didnt make them too overpowered...(I think we made a Scythe Lizard more powerful than a standard DnD dragon, might have to change that lol)

The numbers i tended to use were based off of the D&D Crafting for income system in 3.5.  So i'll break that down for ya's to show you that as well.

Max skill ranks allowable for a PC is 3+ the level of the character (so a first level character can have a max of 4 ranks in a skill).

In order to show the max amount for this i used a 20th level Wizard and Alchemy, but any craft can be used.  I'll use the 20th level Wizard again and break things down for you.

This wizard has 23 ranks in Alchemy, which is based on Intelligence, assuming a 20 intelligence, that number bumps up to 28 (+5 modifier from Intelligence).  Now this wizard fully plans on specializing in Alchemy, but i'll get into that abit later.

28 Modifier, assuming an average roll of 10 on a d20 comes out to 38, for income this is cut in half and we're down to 19.  This number 19, is how many silver pieces the wizard has earned for a weeks worth of work, so to get monthly income we multiply it by 4 and come up with 76.  To get the gold value of this we consult the book to find that 10 silver = 1 gold, so for a months worth of work the wizard has made 7g 6s.

Ok now lets see what happens when the wizard has everything he/she needs to bump this skill to the maximum.

23 ranks in Alchemy
26 Intelligence (+8 modifier, the boost to intelligence comes from a magic item called a headband of intellect)
Skill Focus Alchemy (+3 bonus to Alchemy)
Alchemists Lab (+2 bonus to Alchemy)
and say an Assistant for a +2 circumstance bonus to Alchemy

23+8+3+2+2 = 38

Assuming an average roll of 10 once again we come out to 48 for the income roll, divide it in half for the actual outcome and we get 24.  Now to get the months income we multiply it again by 4 and get 96, 96 silver pieces which turns out to be 9 gold, 6 silver.

And that's only if he rips off his assistant and doesnt pay him/her! lol

Now, the reason i'm doing this in DnD lingo is to point a finger at all the DM's out there planning on running DnD campaigns in the world of khoras.  The above example was a level 20 wizard fully maxed out in alchemy with a 32pt buy system.  You cant expect your players characters to live off of their crafting skills alone.  Keep an eye on these boards and look for the possible alternatives aside from "phat lewt" in addies. :P

Khorasian Elves are fair, older than humans, magically-gifted, self-superior, and have pointy ears.  Sounds close enough to the classic fantasy archetype to me.  Nothing to worry about.

They are longer lived yes, but according to the setting they are evolved from humans, ergo Humans are the oldest race :P

Reading what he/she wrote, i do believe he/she is referring to J.R.R Tolkien's(sp?) Elves from Middle Earth.  That being said...the only thing i dont like about the Khoras elves is that they have wings, and only due to the controversy that surrounds them when trying to assign racial abilities to them.

Dragons...i love the Dragons of Khoras, especially since they have plenty of smaller "cousins" to make adventurers happy enough when it comes to Dragonslaying.

Still...that person must not have read the part where YOU created the world, lol.

General Discussion and Questions / Broken Links
May 15, 2006, 05:01:22 PM
Since i'm going through the critters i get to test links here and there and i've found a couple of broken ones so far:

Mura
Stone Beak

Both in the Grassland section of Fauna.

To be honest, i dont see Blackguards as old school "anti-paladins."  To me they're more of a melee spellcaster that does what they need to do to further the goals of the church and deity of their worship.  Whether that be rescueing the high priests child from some other villain, or assassinating some messenger bearing proof of a churchses misdeeds...they arent above or below any task.  Some are highly stealthy, others are in your face, while still others have some other forms of spells available to them.

Hope maybe that clarifies, at least my viewpoints, on the Blackguard.

Dont underestimate the bard man :D  They are the unsung heroes of DnD.  So to speak that is.  Since, well their best abilities are performing to inspire the party to heights that give them a very definitive edge over the competition.

If you take two equal parties, but one has a Bard and the other doesnt, generally the party with the bard will win.   Especially if the player of the bard is smart enough to use all of his/her abilities to their fullest potential.

Wizards arent always artillery types..that's honestly best left to Sorcerors.  Wizards are a more versatile spellcaster with alot more options open to them.

That being said, there are a few Wizard spells that make them just as if not more powerful than a standard fighter in melee.  Transformation being one of them.  Transformation gives a Wizard a large bonus to strength, dexterity and constitution, they gain the base attack bonus of a fighter and gain proficiency with all simple and martial weapons for a short time.

That being said, if a Wizard takes Polymorph at 7th level, and fights/studies a Hydra.  They become more badass sooner.  Hydra's are nasty monsters :D
