Title: To Find a King
Post by: Golanthius on September 12, 2008, 03:50:33 PM
David,
I just read the first four chapters of your book and I'm thoroughly impressed. You have a special creative mind and I would encourage you to complete and publish this book. It is as well written as any book I have read (and that is alot of books). I like the way you switch from one character to the next without any effort from the reader to keep up. The story line is exceptional as well as the character building.
Very well done. ;D

I agree. It's been a while since I read it, but even now it strikes me as some damn good writing man.

And a Khoras book would be amazingly cool, not to mention great advertising for the site.

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. Yes, I think fiction would be a nice way to advertise the site. I was thinking of easing back into fiction writing with a series of short stories based in Khoras. The Callister Draabyn story was my warmup story, such as it was. I am still thinking of doing a few short stories to get back into practice before I dust off the novel and finish it.

Coincidentally, this is a topic that comes up every now and then with Mark. He wants me to write a novel based on the Jaidor Talisman. Both Avisarr and Jaidor are good plotlines that would make a good book. They would need some tweaking, but I think either one could be a good novel.

Hell yeah that'd be tight!

But the one you're working on is good for a start lmao.

Haha someday you'll be The Misfits of Tabletop RPG Gaming, David. :P

I've just finish reading your book, and I must say that I was also very impressed.
It's an awsome story, with a lot of things happening to lots of characters, and we always want to read more to know what happens to each of them.

But what was really incredible for me is the athmosphere of this story. It's very very dark. And by reading that I realized how far I was when I played in Duthelm. I don't know how to explain it, perhaps it's only the difference between a game (short-fun) and a story (longer-fully immerged in the background-tons of details). I'm definitively going to try to stick with such an athmosphere, and do Duthelm life much more harsh. Even the Empire is... different...
Example ? I would never have imagined that Slavers use technics like described in the book, or that empire executioners would be so cruel. The Empire seemed so good for me that it's like falling from a pedestal. And it's great!

I know you're working on a lot of other stuff (and some things concerning magic I really want to read), but I join others to say that you should work on that and publish it.
Great! Really! :D

I will finish the novel one day. But as I mentioned, I'm going to warm up with several short stories set in Khoras first. The next one will be about Seven Kegs Floating. My two good friends, Mark and Heath, have both asked me to write a story based on that town. And they have been very patient. But every few months, they prod me and ask about it. So, the Seven Kegs story will be the next serious piece of writing I do. It's going to be much longer and more involved than the Callister Draabyn story.

I'm glad everyone likes the chapters of the novel that I posted. That encourages me to write more.
