Title: Opinion wanted
Post by: Golanthius on October 02, 2008, 11:45:57 PM
Has anyone looked at the True20 gaming system? I have only read some reviews but have not seen the core rulebook. The reviews state that it is not detail oriented, for me the meat of gaming are the details. I'm looking to try a new game system. I've looked at GURPS and didn't care for that. Just wondering if anyone has tried and really liked a different system other than AD&D (TSR editions). I have refused to go to WofC.

I have not heard of the True20 system. Is that related to the d20 system? Or totally different?

As for GURPS, there are actually some things I like about it. I don't like that it's based on the d6. And they have some stylistic choices that I don't like. But GURPS has a structure I like a lot - based on skills rather than classes, skills have prerequisites, very detailed. I've never seen the GURPS magic system though, so I can't vouch for that.

Let us know what you think of True20 after you check it out.

After reading core books for a few systems, it looks like I will be staying with AD&D 2E for awhile longer.  Savage Worlds is very limited on skills (ie. fighting skill covers all combat, shooting skill covers all missile fire, etc). I still need to look closer at GURPS, but I'm not crazy about just using d6's. The revised True20 core book is almost 300 pages, it will take me awhile to go through it.

So, AD&D is it for now.

Thanks for the response David

PS - I'm sending you a revised Lestreanne map.

I just found an indie system called Burning Wheel, it looks extremely promising... www.burningwheel.org

I only just glanced at it, but oh yeah, I'm definitely going to have to check out this system. :)

I have been looking at the Burning Wheel system. I really like the Character Burner with the Lifepaths, Beliefs and Instincts playing a big role in your character. TheTests, Obsticles, Shades, and Scripting is very different from what I'm used to.

The Battle of Wits to solve arguements is an interesting concept. As is the scripting of combat.

Overall the system seems very complex and difficult to learn.

Should have posted this thread in the Role-Playing section...My bad
