Title: Question on Sybrenar social stratification
Post by: Delbareth on November 06, 2008, 04:22:24 AM
Yop yop!

I'm going to play a one shot adventure the whole week-end. They will live in the Iron States and two of them are Sybrenars (mage and warrior-mage). It is said that Sybrenar society is very stratified, with a rank structure : "All behavior within Sybrenar society is tempered by rank."
Could you give me some example of these rank? Because I guess there are a lot of different rank but I don't see exactly which ones...

I'll add some notes on the Sybenar pages to clarify things.

Ok, I don't have time to write this up formally right now... however, here's a quick overview:

The general idea is that in the Sybrenar Imperium, the concepts of government and military and citizenship have been blended into a unified whole across the nation. Where other races see the army separate from the citizens separate from the government, the Sybrenar see all of those as one. Rather than define oneself as a soldier or a citizen, one is a sybrenar. "Duty is life" is their motto. So, in a way, every sybrenar is a member of this rather complex social tapestry. Not every sybrenar is a soldier, but every sybrenar holds a rank and has loyalty to the state and has a function or role within the nation. All serve the greater good in their role. Every sybrenar sees him or herself as a part of a greater whole... the Imperium. And the Imperium serves the needs of the citizens. In a way, it is the purest form of socialism blended with a brutally efficient military and an imperial dynasty.

So, Sybrenar characters would have a rank that denotes their position within the nation and achieving promotions would be a major motivating factor in their careers and lives.

I will write this up more eloquently and integrate it into the Sybenar page as soon as I can.

Interresting. I had missed the "duty is life" aspect. I'm going to insist on that part to the Sybrenar's players.
Thanks!
