Title: Role Playing System
Post by: Shini Neko Ni on December 14, 2005, 02:45:15 AM
Hello everyone!

This is my first time posting here so I thought that I would say that first  :) I have been looking at Khoras at a while now and I am very impressed by it, I have been playing D&D for about 6 years now, and I have also played a few other systems as well and I am thinking about starting a new game in the world of Khoras.

I am just curious, what system do you think works the best for the world of Khoras, and do you have any tips on how to run the world. I would like if you have any tips on how to run Khoras in system of D&D 3.x however if you think its better played elsewhere then that is fine too. Anyways, thank you for taking time to read this and I hope this is in the right place to post this.

Oh, also another question. Does anybody have any good way to introduce the world of Khoras to those that have never seen it before? Maybe something, like a Campaign packet to introduce the setting. Anyways thank you again, and I hope to post what happens in the game on here as well if anyone is interested that is ;).

Welcome Shini Neko Ni,

My recommendation will always be Alternity for just about any type of roleplaying. If you're playing fantasy you have to do a bit of work on it first, but it's worth it. But Khoras really is playable with just about any system. D&D is just fine, and, I believe, is the system David uses himself when playing in Khoras.

I don't have really good advice on where or how to start it up, though. It's been a long while since I played in Khoras. But generally I'd say, start it out in a place that's familiar to you. For me I'd take a coastal town with a lot of humans, and start out there. Also, you might not want to introduce too much to the players at once. For example there are a lot of playable races to choose from and it could take you a long time to get started if you opened up all opportunities to them from the start. Though it might also for a very interesting party.

Looking forward to reading about your game if you decide to post it here.

Welcome to Khoras!

You can use any role playing system you are comfortable with. I've built Khoras using plain language, not numbers. So, you can adapt it to any role playing system. You can also adjust the relative strength of people or monsters to fit your players and play style. Yes, I agree with others that it takes more work that way. But I feel that that's part of being a game master.

I myself use a heavily modified version of D&D. (I can never use a system as is, I always end up tinkering with it).

But you can use anything. There are many groups who use 3.x D&D with Khoras. At least four groups that I know of.

Regarding the introduction of Khoras to players, I used to have a "packet" of information that introduces the world as a whole. It was sort of a summary overview. Let me see if I can find that and dust it off (and maybe update it).  I'll put it up on the web site.

I think most likely I am going to use D&D, just because my players know about it  :) Thank you for your responses though, and thank you David for getting the packet online, hopefully that is not too much of a problem. I just need to sit down and see how I am going to get it to work with D&D, knowing that it has been done before helps.  ;)

Anyways thank you for the posts, hopefully I will post about the adventures I have, whenever I have them.
