Title: old Avisarr journal
Post by: Delbareth on March 28, 2009, 02:55:03 AM
Hello!

I'm reading the old journal written in your first Avisarr campaign (for those who want to find it : DM Tools>Full Campaign>Avisarr>Notes for past Avisarr campaign>Journal). It's quite funny to see you Khoras was before being the Khoras we all now today.
There are some old names that I was able to recover (Kitar was called Ratik and Miranor was Marner), the geopolitic problem are quite the same but slightly different (the bad guy is Alifax Deathchilde (as in the "To find a King" novel) and not the Black Sorcerers)... Even Caramus is not yet the ruler of Duthelm...
It's definitively an interresting story for those interested in the evolution of Khoras world ;)

Yep, Khoras has definitely grown and evolved over the years.

About a year ago, I had dinner with Mark and Beth, two of the players from the original Avisarr campaign back in college. It had been the first time I had seen Beth in a few years. She surprised me by handing over a couple of big binders full of notes from Khoras. It was stuff she had borrowed YEARS earlier. So, all of a sudden, I had tons of notes from the very beginning of Khoras. Some of it I already had, but there was a lot of stuff in there that I hadn't seen in years. It stirred up a lot of old memories.

Here are a few other interesting bits and pieces of Khoras lore...

The grum were originally called "khendites" which bears some resemblance to kender.
Saurians were originally called "argrox".
Phellysians were originally called "caitains" until I discovered there was a Star Trek feline humanoid race by that name.
Elves were called "jevani" and, for a time, elflings. Both were attempts to differentiate them from standard elves.
Ogres were called "orgs".
Xorians were called "zyddorians".
Dwarvers were, for a time, known as "tellurians".
Aridorn was originally called "Rankor".

Most of those race names became alternate names or names from ancient languages. So you can still find "argrox" and "jevani" on the site, but most of the time there are ancient terms for dead languages.

Buried in that mound of papers that Beth gave me that night was a copy of the original list of nations. I mean, the ORIGINAL list. Several of the nations started off with different names and there was ONE nation that I didn't even recognize (and which, apparently, did not survive into the current web-based form of Khoras). I have no idea why but I'm really curious about it now. I can't seem to find that page at the moment. I'll have to trudge down to the vault and go through the stacks of papers, but I will find those pages and when I do, I will post a little information about this mysterious "missing nation".

Alright, enough of reminiscing... back to work I go. :)
