Look forward to seeing all the new stuff on Tykron.

And with Tykron being 'just down the road' as it were .. we use it a bit on the online chat ..

Role Playing Discussion / Re: Holy Symbols

Remember you have to present your Holy Symbol when dealing with undead -- so .. do be careful where they're put *g*

Oh it would be easy to see alright, but looking at it may well be the last thing you ever see ... like looking at an arc welder light.

Unfortunately my copy of Norton's Star Atlas is conspicuous by it's absence otherwise I'd run a few numbers through the stellar foumulas there and see what comes out.

QuoteYes he will...not that i like having the stats where players can easily view them...i like advancing things and hate it when people say i'm running something wrong when they dont know what i'm really doing.

Then tell them to submit their own ideas or lump it.

Hmmm .. I do like the idea of a spell 'backfiring' but there's no mechanism for it in D&D - unlike DQ where spells can, and do, backfire with hilarious results inflicting a possibility of effects from embarrisements to minor curses on the poor unfortunate mage.

Something else for me to look into ..

Dragonquest is another system that has a skill based system. All characters can have what skill sets that they like and, as they rank their skills, by putting EP into them, they get better at them and gain more abilities ... healer for instance .. a Rank 0 healer can diagnose by 'Lay on hands' but they have to be rank 3 to actually heal fatigue or endurance damage and Rank 8 to ressurect.

The other thing about DQ is that mages can belong to one of 16 odd Colleges that have their own set of spells, general or special knowledge. All mages start off with knowing the General Knowledge spells of their college at rank 0 - the higher the rank the higher the cast chance of getting the spell to work and the more powerful the spell is (incidently the Drellis Effect works great with DQ as it adds or subtracts from the Cast Chance). Special Knowledge spells have to be taught to the PC which costs money, time .. and more experience.

For those that don't know .. Dragonquest was originally put out by SPI about the same time D&D first came out. TSR acquired it later, but did nothing with it so it's been largely forgotten .. except by enthusiasts.. look up www.dragonquest.org.nz for stuff and links ...

But yeah .. that's one way of setting up PCs with skill sets ...

QuoteWe've also been promised a new character creation generator by the owner of exodus, Joshua is also a busy man though so it may take awhile for us to get it.

Errr ... that might be my fault .. I really should sit down and figure out how to tie the code in to the character database. Maybe when I'm not so busy.

Just as a point of interest. I'll be posting the stats that Spence has done to the Dathkandra setting website (http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~phaeton/khoras/dathkandra) as soon as I get my desktop back in order.

Oh .. I messed up .. and I should have known better. Upon reading the site, it said that both Karrym and Drellis have the same mass. Given that, and that Drellis is blue, that still means Drellis is smaller than Karrym ... probably about quarter of the size. At a rough guess .. I'd put them both at 0.6 to 0.7 solar masses each.

As someone has pointed out .. there are real universe analogs to the Drellis/Karrym pair .. Beta Lyra immedately springs to mind.

And I agree with Delbareth. I see Karrym as a standard G2v yellow dwarf, while Drellis is much smaller but brighter, since it's blue, probably a BOv and definately not on the main sequence. It would look like a blue spark in the sky, next to Karrym's disk.

Probably Drellis only has a percentage of the mass of Karrym, maybe 5 percent, otherwise the Sundering would have made Karrym an orange dwarf and shrunk the life zone too much.

Just my thoughts

General Discussion and Questions / Re: Moon Phases
April 30, 2006, 10:53:54 PM
I used a PHP script to generate mine. Basically, for acth day, it displays the current phase for each moon.  I could use it to predict stuff like conjunctions and eclipses. I do assume that Mektor is large enough to produce a total solar eclipse .. not sure about the others.

Incidently, it is interesting that Night Jewel's orbit is in step with Mektor.

Oh .. are you sure you're talking about Thrykar? If I recall correctly, Night's Jewel is the smallest, and closer, moon.

Thanks for the hint

General Discussion and Questions / Re: Moon Phases

When I was working out my calendar, I assumed it would be measured from Full to Full, being the synodic period, the one more easily noted on the ground. The siderial period (measured relative to the stallar background) would be different.

QuoteMagic portals to the moon or another planet? Well, yes, that's a possibility. As a matter of fact, there's a secret about one of the moon's of Khoras. Thrykar, the smallest moon, is green and there's a reason why it's green. There's a hidden puzzle about that with pieces of the puzzle hidden around the site. You'd have to really read deep to figure out all the clues and figure out the secret behind Thyrkar. Anyway, I've already said enough that you could make an educated guess. But WHO is behind it? That's the secret. That's the key. Anyway, this is yet another corner of Khoras that has been hinted at but has not yet been detailed. It's another area where much has been written but not uploaded yet. One day, eventually, I will full detail and reveal that puzzle.

That sounds intreguing and I guess it's time to go digging ... and at the moment I have a PC planning to fly to the moon *g* Um .. any change of a hint to start please?
