Coalition agriculture

Hi everyone!
The Coalition is a quite desertic place, lot's of rocks and sand. But even ogres and orcs have to eat and I was wondering about the agriculture there.
It is said to be only 19% of arable land. So I guess theses land are mainly located one the shore of the blood river. Is it right? In this case the Coalition looks like Egypt with the fertile Nil valley and the steril desert all around. Is there really lots of vegetable fields and animals in grassy lands?
The other solution would be to import food, but I don't know which surrounding country would accept to sell food to them. And it would be a key military weakness.
So David, could you describe me a little bit how you see that?

This is just a guess, but it could be that they live more off of meat than bread or fruit. Though, I don't know how the races handle scurvy and gout. >_>;

Or it could just be that anywhere with lots of people either has an oasis suitable for irrigation or they might irrigate with aquifers like the Achaemenid Empire of ancient Persia did.

Though those are all rough guesses, especially considering the population of the Coalition.

You're right, they can eat more meat than a rukemian human peasan... but I don't see the Coalition as a luxurious forest full of jumping games
I'm sure they hunt and eat meat but I fear fauna is not sufficient for the voracious ogrish appetite. And perhaps Tyrrenkor's area has been emptied of all animals for long.

Good question. The way I see it is there are three main sources of food in the Coalition:

First, there is the central river valley. Yeah, it's a bit like Egypt in that there is one huge river valley with a lot of arable land along the river. The majority of the population lives along the river valley.

Second, there's also a lot of good land for farming on the grassy plains that flank the mountain chains on the outer coasts. You can see those on the map and it's also mentioned in the page description. Some of the agriculture is done on terraced farms in the foothills of the mountains.

And the third major source off food is the ocean. There are a lot of coastal villages and small island communities they all fish the surrounding seas.

I think the Geography and Fauna/Flora sections touch on that, but perhaps I should rewrite that and make it more evident.

There is also a lot of hunting and gathering in the forests and mountains of the interior of the peninsula, but this would be a less significant source of food than the first three.

When it comes to geography, climate and types of food, the Coalition is a little bit like Italy (although the Coalition is more mountainous).
