Session 38 – The Body

The characters had just finished off the large scale battle with the Horde eggsack creature, several dozen hordelings and a large group of Desolation Wights.

They then went into the ruins, found the most intact building (which actually had a second floor) and holed up in the second floor and made camp. Once camp was established, Rothgar, Ugita and Grimnoth ventured out into the ruins to explore while the others rested at camp.

The three explorers discovered the dead body of a human male. The corpse was of a young, blonde man about 16 years old. Around him were several dead wights. From his weapon, his scars and his meager possessions, Ugita guessed  that he was a member of an indigenous tribe that dwelled out here in the wastes. His weapon, a long curved blade, was fashioned from a piece of shell from a larger horde creature. His race was likely immune to the plague as he hadn't changed into a wight after death. His scars indicated that he had been out here for quite a long time.

The group also found a red cloak with him. The party guessed that the cloak must be useful against the Horde creatures. They guessed that its bright red color was in fact a camouflage. The horde creatures, they assumed, could not see red.

The party camped in the ruins. The next morning the group awoke to a mild rain shower. It swept over them and headed north. The group broke camp, drank their antidote and continued on their journey.

After several hours of travel, they spotted a large cloth banner on an erect wooden pole, fluttering in the wind, on top of a hill. They went to investigate. At the base of the pole, they found a cache of supplies – food, water, 2 red cloaks, a large seashell sealed with a plant resin and (according to the X-ray mode on Callister's magic spyglass) filled with a large, round smooth hunk of meat. Very bizarre they thought. The party took the 2 horde cloaks and the sealed seashell.

The party continued on and encountered a small group of wolf-elk creatures. They noticed that one of them had a bit and bridle. The creatures galloped away.

The party was attacked by spirit wraiths. Traskilled and Saramuthak had warned them about the spirit wraiths. Invisible creatures that could pass through solid matter and attack with a freezing touch. Saramuthak had given them an enchanted lantern that he had created. The creatures were only visible in the light of this lantern. And they were immuned to all weapons except some enchanted "spirit sticks" that Saramuthak had given them. The party used the lantern and spirit sticks to defeat five of them. Each time a spirit stick struck a spirit wraith with a successful attack, the wraith was automatically killed. It coalesced into an "ice sculpture" which crashed to the ground. An icy figure that resembled a cloaked figure. The party now has five dead ice sculpture wraiths.

That's where we ended. The party has just defeated the wraiths. They have 22 spirit sticks lef
