The Story:

At the end of the last session, the party was exploring one of the last areas of the current dungeon level - a corridor with several side rooms which seemed to be various workshops, craft shops and storage rooms.  Alan was studying the various half built golems and automatons in the main workshop. In the last workshop at the end of the corridor, Tristan kicked in the door only to be confronted with the biggest mechanical golem that the party had seen yet. The monstrous thing turned and attacked.

It was an impressive thing, this golem. It was fashioned as a biped, but stood 9 feet tall. It had heavy armor plating. It's right hand was a hammer. It's left hand was a grappling hook gun that fired a nasty barbed harpoon attached to a chain.

As Tristan battled the thing, the rest of the players scrambled in the corridor to run to his aid. RedEye was the first one into the room. Wasting no time he used his darkwalking ability to go insubstantial, ran up to the golem, phased a small section of its armor and then shoved a missile (one of the 3 orbs from the "Necklace of Missiles" that he had) through the phased armor. The orb dropped into the chest cavity of the golem and detonated.

Unknown to RedEye, the missile detonated very close to the Arkulyte crystal that was powering the thing. The crystal fractured and exploded... releasing a tremendous amount of energy all at once. The resulting explosion catapulted Tristan backward and out into the corridor. Redeye, even though he was phased, was shaken as the barrier between dimensions warbled. In the next room, Alan felt the walls shake and several bookcases were knocked down. The rest of the party, in the corridor, were knocked to their feet.

As the smoked cleared, the party (including Alan) survived what was left of the workshop where the big golem had exploded. The room was wrecked. It had been a storage room and armory. Almost everything was destroyed. Alan could tell what had been magical by sensing the residual energy in them that was dissipating. A potion rack was blown apart and all of the potions in it were shattered. A magical tapestry on the wall burned up. At least four magical weapons had been destroyed. The only items of value that survived the devastation was the following:

2 phase arrows (green crystal tipped arrows identical to the one obtained last session)

6 black arrows (which Alan analyzed and determined were self-guided "seeking" arrows that would continue to fly around a room making multiple attacks at a target until they hit)

A mace (with a variety of magical functions – light on command, extra damage against undead and once per month either a cure disease or remove curse).

The best item was a full suit of magical enhanced full plate armor. However, it appeared that the armor had not been quite finished – both in regards to its construction and magical enchantment. Furthermore, it had sustained some damage in the explosion. The party determined that, if the armor could be repaired and finished, it would be a magnificent suit.

The party decided that it would be good idea to rest. They had been going for many hours and were exhausted. The retreated all the way back to the beginning of this dungeon level – to the wagon garage. They climbed into one of the huge wagons and slept. They felt this would be the most defensible place if they were attacked. However, they weren't bothered and slept soundly and undisturbed for 8 hours.

At this time, RedEye gave the "x ray helmet" to Eiran, the archer. The party decided that since Eiran now had 3 phase arrows which could shoot through walls, it made sense for him to have the helmet which could see through walls. The helmet had 8 charges left.

After sleeping, they used the magical function of the crystal fountain (in the main dock) to summon some food and ate. After a meal, they went back to where they had left off in the area of the workshops. Alan went back to the main workshop to continue his studies while the rest of the party explored the last few rooms on this level.

According to their map (which was now labeled thanks to Raluvin, the butler golem) the party knew that the first room in the last section was a "combat training room". Before they opened the door, they heard something. Eiran used his helmet to peer through the door and saw another combat golem, the large variety, like the one they had destroyed earlier.

They prepared their weapons, kicked in the door, and attacked. The battle was short and fierce. These golems were formidable opponents with very thick armor. At Alan's urging, they focused their attacks on disabling, rather than destroying, the golem. Alan wanted to study it. The party successfully blew off one of its legs. They tried using the drellisite crystal (anti magic crystal) against it. Holding the crystal near the golem did not seem be enough. The thing slowed a bit, but continued attacking.

At one point in the battle, its chest plate slide open revealing a weapon very much like a crossbow which began firing bolts at the party. They managed to throw the drellisite crystal through this opening and into the chest cavity where it landed next to the central Arkulyte crystal which was powering the thing. That did the trick (most likely the drellisite crystal was in direct contact with the golem's central crystal. It's power source failed and the golem shut down.

This is where we ended Session 19. (Yes, this was a short session).
