Avisarr 98 - Summary of Session 18

The Citadel

The Village of Dominion

The party, now loaded down with technological gadgets (most of which they don't know how to operate), marches into the village of Dominion. Martin goes to check out the local thieves guild and get information. Martin hears about a dwarf, Uzik, and the possibility of entering the Citadel using Uzik's river boat.

The River

The party tracks down Uzik to a tavern which is on the bank of a river. Within they find the Uzik, the dwarf, recently killed in a poker game by an orc who now claims ownership of Uzik's riverboat. The orc goes out to inspect his new boat. Martin follows him discreetly. A well placed knife to the back soon sends the orc overboard to a watery grave. The party jumps aboard their new boat quickly before any friends of the orc come out looking for him and shove off. They don't get 100 meters before an ogre comes up from below deck (bleary eyed and sleepy). He turns out to be mute and through gesture, indicates that his name is Row and he worked for Uzik. The party explains the situation (Uzik is dead, we own the boat now) and prepare themselves for a fight. Row shows little interest in who owns the boat and gestures that he will help them if the pay is decent. The party agrees to give the boat to Row if they help him get into and out of the Citadel. Row agrees.

After a short journey upriver, the riverboat approaches the Citadel. The massive mountain fortress looms on the horizon long before the boat actually reaches the cave river entrance. Row waves to the guards at the portcullis. They recognize him. The boat passes underneath the portcullis and docks at a wooden pier in a large caves with several other boats.

The Assault

Through a combination of stealth, magic, bravado and luck, the party manages to sneak into the citadel and make their way into restricted areas. Soon, they attack four guards in a barracks chambers and steal their uniforms. Dressed thus, they manage to bluff their way down into one of the command centers of the main prison. They are in too deep before they realize it. It is only a matter of time before a slip of the tongue alerts the guards. A standoff with weapons drawn erupts and more guards are called.

Captured

Battle is joined and Asgar pulls out a piece of that lovely technology, a stun grenade. The party had not quite yet mastered the grenades and this particular weapon was activated and then fumbled. Literally, Asgarr dropped the grenade at his feet. A shock wave of energy erupted engulfing the party and everyone dropped. The party was quickly and easily captured by the unphased Citadel guards.
