In addition to these metal coins, jewels and gems are frequently used in a very ritualized form of trade and barter. Certain avarians specialize in gem cutting, polishing and appraisal. They examine and assign specific values to gems based on size, color, clarity and flawlessness. Some wealthy avarians deal only in precious jewels.
