This semi-circular piece of armor is part visor and part helmet. It is made of a dull blue-grey metal and is fashioned such that it vaguely resembles monstrous eyes. It can be incorporated into an existing armored helm or worn separately. It covers about half the face.
The mage lord Engrith, a powerful but paranoid member of the Alliance, created this visor for his bodyguard, Gynfeld. Like all Pre-Sundering artifacts, this device is incredibly old having survived since before the Great War and endured more than 2000 years of history. The device has changed hands many dozens of times, usually claimed on the battlefield from a fallen warrior. It has surfaced across the lands of Ithria over the centuries. It was last known to be in the possession of a mercenary leader, a saurian, named Athlatur operating along the south coast.
As an Alliance artifact, this device is extremely powerful, much more powerful than most items crafted by today's wizards. It's operation is quite simple. When this visor is worn, the user can see all things plainly - invisible objects, magical auras, heat emanations and life force. The wearer can also see in absolute darkness without difficulty. It provides excellent protection for the face.
