Physical Description

A boggart appears as a short, very ugly goblin-like creature. It’s squat form is distinctive due to it having very long arms and short legs. Its skin color is usually a greenish grey. It has large red eyes and long pointed ears. The boggart are known to have a foul stench.

Combat

Due to their small size, boggarts are not a particularly dangerous threat in combat. They are, however, very quick and agile which makes them difficult to hit. Boggarts are also clever and have some innate magical ability. They can turn invisible at will (though only for short periods of time as it taxes them).

They also have some limited telekinetic ability. Their telekinesis is strong enough to lift 20 kilograms and the average boggart can use its telekinetic power seven times per day (although this varies with individual boggarts). They will occasionally use it to trip or distract a combatant in battle.

Boggarts are very stealthy and able to conceal themselves in unusual ways. Their bones are actually cartilidge which bend more than normal bone. Because of this, they can contort their bodies and squeeze through small openings. Their bones cannot be broken. If cornered and forced to fight, a boggart will slash with its claws.

Geographic Distribution and Habitat

Boggarts can be found almost anywhere in the three continents, but never too far from civilization. When not harassing a farm or village, they will often lair in a large tree in a nearby woods, atop a hill or in a meadow.

Ecology

Boggarts delight in causing mischief and stealing items. They will usually take up residence in a small village or isolated farm and begin causing trouble. They are notorious for sneaking into homes, quietly rifling through belongings and swiping small trinkets. After stealing such valuables, they will often open cupboards, move furniture and so forth, leaving behind a trail of confusion and frustration. At night, they will open up animal pens at night, spook the horses and generally cause whatever mayhem they can. They will also frequently steal food as they have voracious appetites despite that small size.

The intelligent creatures can speak and often know several languages. Little is known about where they come from, the culture and so forth.

Notes

Boggarts are generally solitary creatures, but on rare occasions, two or three will work together.

Some boggarts will twist twigs and leaves into strange rune-like shapes and leave them hanging where they are sure to be found in order to frighten the residents.

Once discovered, villagers will often band together to chase the boggart away. The boggart will typically relocate to a new region and find a new village or farm to annoy.

Boggarts are partially resistant to spells and magical effects. Some scholars believe that boggarts are actually from another dimension and slip through to the mortal world through various magical portals or wizard summonings.
