Tomarin

Dialects

Tomarin is the official language of the Iron States. Tomarin does have regional dialects known as Southern Tomarin, Northern Tomarin and Mountain Tomarin. However, these regional variations are very subtle and account for little more than accent. The grammar, syntax and vocabulary of Tomarin is fairly homogenous throughout the Iron States. Tomarin is sometimes referred to as "iron tongue".

Spoken

Tomarin is a choppy language full of short syllables and hard consonants. It tends to be spoken forcefully. The Tomarin people tend toward grim stoicism and this is evident in their language. Even when spoken softly, the syllables are sharp. The sound of this language has been called "as hard as the iron lords and as sharp as their blades".

Written

Tomarin is not a difficult language to learn. It evolved from the ancient Kytai language along with Magrakian, Sybrenar and Hyttar. Though it shares much syntax with other languages and even some borrowed words, it has a very different vocabulary and manner of speech. It is instantly recognizable. Tomarin is based on a alphabet of 50 letters, most of which is a direct descendent from the Kytohanases alphabet that preceded it.
